A romantic, downtown Virginia engagement session- talk about a perfect evening! Wedding planning has a way of filling every weekend with another decision, another email, or another item to check off the list. That’s why I loved this engagement session so much. For a couple of hours, there was nowhere Gracie and Joe needed to be except together, and I think that’s exactly what made the evening feel so special!

We started at a cozy coffee shop, easing into the session over warm drinks and conversation. Spending the evening with Gracie and Joe felt less like photographing an engagement session and more like tagging along on one of their favorite date nights. They laughed easily, settled into the moment without rushing, and simply enjoyed being together. Those are always the sessions that end up feeling the most genuine.

After coffee, we wandered through downtown, stopping anywhere that felt inviting. There wasn’t a strict plan or a long list of must have locations. We took our time, explored a few quiet streets, and let the evening unfold naturally. Some of my favorite images came from those unplanned moments when they were talking, laughing, or completely forgetting the camera was there!

As the sun began to set, we made our way to the waterfront to end the session. The light was soft, the breeze coming off the water made it the perfect summer evening, and everything seemed to slow down for a little while. It was the kind of ending you hope for after a relaxed evening spent together.

Getting to know couples before the wedding day is one of my favorite parts of what I do. Sessions like this give us the chance to build trust, spend time together, and create photos that feel true to who they are. After spending the evening with Gracie and Joe, I walked away even more excited for their wedding day and all that’s ahead for them.
